Local 'earmarks' run a stop sign (congressmen shuffle federal money to local companies despite ban)

Washington -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi laid down the law this year: To prevent the appearance of Congress doing unethical favors for big campaign contributors, she told Democrats they could no longer steer federal money directly to corporations. The only "earmarks" members could seek in spending bills would be for nonprofits... But not everyone is obeying Pelosi’s tough talk... U.S. Reps. Dan Maffei and Michael Arcuri have found a way to work around the new orders: Simply pass the federal money to not-for-profit organizations and let them forward it to corporations.... Maffei and Arcuri accepted campaign contributions from the same...

The Hundred Dollar Car Wash (Idiot Michael Moore loses bet, has to wash muddy SUV in Portland, OR)

The Hundred Dollar Car WashBy Paul Harwood April 27th, 2010 8:59 PM If there are two things I enjoy doing, they’re watching Countdown and catching interviews with Michael Moore, so I got a two-fer last Friday when I watched the podcast of Thursday night’s edition of Countdown. (Please: Don’t tell Keith Olbermann that I watch the podcast rather than the broadcast. Let that be our little secret.) I caught Lawrence O’Donnell interviewing Michael Moore about health care. Because I’m unemployed and so have time on my hands, and because there were so many bizarre claims about the contents of the...

Top war correspondent’s embed in Afghanistan halted

No one reporting on the Global War on Terror has done a more effective or honest job than Michael Yon. For one thing he knows the military, having served in U.S. Army Special Forces. With his camera and his pen, he enabled readers to see aspects of war corporate media could or would not divulge. On Saturday, April 10, Yon posted a message on his magazine-style website. “[A] message came from military that this embed has ended.” He headed off to pack his bags.

Hanna raises $350K in eight weeks (running against Arcuri, D-NY)

Republican Congressional candidate Richard Hanna has raised more than $350,000 in the last eight weeks, his campaign said Saturday. Hanna, who is challenging incumbent Democrat Michael Arcuri in the 24th district, said in a press release that he was “humbled and grateful for the enormous support.” His campaign said 91 percent of the individual donations came from within the district, which includes the city of Geneva and parts of Ontario and Seneca counties. Complete first-quarter financials must be filed with the Federal Election Commission by Thursday, and Hanna’s campaign said specific figures would be available then. Arcuri spokesman Mark Cornell...

Michael Steele's prodigality & race-baiting could open door for Palin as RNC Chairma'am

"... I have found Steele on a few occasions to be McCain-esque in the sense that he sometimes seems confused about where he should stand on issues. As I have been writing since January 2009, I feel that Sarah Palin would be perfectly suited for that position. If she runs for President, there is going to be a schism among conservatives, especially when considering her campaigning for John McCain over J.D. Hayworth. I understand the trite excuse about her "owing" McCain something... That is just more of the nonsensical thinking that got us into this debacle. If anything, Palin should...

Michael Steele's prodigality & race-baiting could open door for Palin as RNC Chairma'am

"...It would be fun to accuse these make believe journalists of being racists (because they certainly are) but if that is the strategy Steele is taking, he is miscalculating. I’m giving Steele the benefit of a doubt in this theory but regardless of whether I’m right, it is still an unacceptable strategy and the –reason- is a key difference in the noble way conservatives operate versus liberals. Because the specific attribute that makes liberals –liberals- is the desire to wallow in evil at all costs, they are willing to cannibalize anyone anytime anywhere. As long as their actions protect or...
